Port Washington: Where our stories began. June 1972 was a pivotal time in our lives as it was the last time we'd be together both as students and friends. We have attended countless reunions during the ensuing decades leading us to our upcoming 50th Reunion on September 10, 2022 We fast forwarded 50 year from the yearbook photo version of ourselves, "You can't go home again." wrote the American novelist, Thomas Wolfe. Not so. True, we may not be the same people today as we were when we were growing up in Port Washington, playing on sports teams, studying, listening to new rock bands on our 8-track cassettes, wearing our tight bellbottom jeans and all the other trends we were accustomed to in our formative teenage years. Not surprising, we’ve all moved on. But we’ve never let go of our roots. Our friendships have endured and have shaped who we have become. Encountering former classmates and recalling memories give us a better insight into who we were then, who we are now, and the journey that links the past with the present. Time suspends when we get together. Fifty years since our high school graduation is a LONG TIME. We have traveled different paths and we have certainly changed, but we still care about one another. Our memories of our high school years in Port Washington are where our stories began. This is a place full of special people where we played, made mistakes and grew up. This is our spiritual home; the ground where the seeds of life were planted. A place we trusted, a place that is within us and a place that always welcomes us "home."
